Uppercase Cover Contest!

Have you ever dreamed about being on the cover of UPPERCASE magazine?

One talented reader will be selected and published on the cover of issue #40 (Jan/Feb/March 2019) and profiled within the issue.

They will receive payment of $500 CAD, an UPPERCASE gift card of $100 store credit and a complimentary subscription or renewal (value $80-120). They will also receive a carton of magazines and 250 postcards with their winning submission to use as self promotion.

The best submissions will be published in print and all submissions will be shared in a digital gallery of submissions.

I've never held such a contest for UPPERCASE before, partly because it is hard for me to let go of a creative process that is so important for the success of each issue: the cover! But you are all so talented and smart and so familiar with UPPERCASE that I'm confident that there will be outstanding submissions.

Although I will publish as many submissions as I can within the pages of issue 40, I'll necessarily have to decline some folks and that's alway hard for both of us. I'm also cognizant of the debate about working on spec. I believe that creative work should be compensated and the winner will be paid the same amount as a typical cover artist and retain all rights to their work, as do all submitters. Ultimately, the choice to participate in this cover contest is yours—you can trust that all submissions will be received with gratitude and appreciation for your time and effort.

Speaking of covers, you might have noticed that I created the artwork on the past two covers (issues 38 with its vintage tins, and issue 39's punch needle design.) With each issue, I strive to challenge my creative abilities in some way, especially since I've been doing this for nearly a decade now. Growing and developing as a creative person is an important part of my job description and, really, the force that guides my life.
